Children born in Australia can get evidence of Australian citizenship at 10 years of age

Did you know that a child born in Australia can get evidence of their Australian citizenship on their 10th birthday?

This applies to all children regardless of the visa status of their parents. In the Australian Citizenship Act, a child born in Australia is an Australian citizen if you can prove that the child has been living in Australia for a period of 10 years from the day they were born.

The best interests of an Australian citizen child must be taken into consideration by the Australian government. Therefore, if your child was born in Australia and you can prove that your child has lived in Australia for 10 years since their birth, then your child can apply for evidence of citizenship even if the child’s parents have held temporary visas in Australia.

Ray Turner Immigration Lawyers are experienced in these applications, we will advise you on the evidence required, prepare the application for you and get your child evidence of their citizenship.
